, one of the most famous explorers in history, was from Venice
His story has fascinated people from all over the world. 17 years old, he left Venice for China, where he lived for about 20 years. Then he came back, ended up in a war and in prison. In jail he wrote a very import book about China.
Marco in China saw things that most Europeans thought he had invented. His bravery was misunderstood for imagination... bt historians today believe what he wrote about is accurate and correct... with exception for some exaggeration!
Kids will love to read this book: "Who was Marco Polo?" by Joan Holub and illustrated by John O' Brien, Penguin 2007.
Nice reading, and listening!
In case you come to Venice with the will of visiting the mercantile area and the houses of the Polos, notice I have a very interesting scavenger hunt designed for families
