Tintoretto and the churches - a master of Renaissance Venice
Tintoretto left lots of works of excellent quality and of great historical and religious interest in the churches of Venice.
This itinerary will allow you to discover some of them.
We will start with the paintings in the presbytery of San Giorgio Maggiore, The Jews in the desert and the Last Supper: considered among his masterpieces, these works provide an insight into many of the themes of the Counter-Reformation.
We will proceed with the church of the Gesuati, which in addition to being a fascinating 18-century building contains a Crucifixion by Tintoretto coming from the old church of the Visitation.
Finally, San Trovaso. Here you will find another Last Supper and a beautiful painting with the Temptation of St. Anthony that tells a story of a Venetian nobleman and his extreme love for his homeland.
