Guided tour at the Doge's Palace, the Prisons, Saint Mark's and the Golden Altarpiece
The political and religious centre of Venice is characterised by one specific colour: gold. The 4,000 square meter of golden mosaic in Saint Mark's are the best example. Behind the main altar, you will then see the Golden Altarpiece that, enriched with 2,000 precious stones, is really impressive. Later, in the Doge's Palace one can find pictures dealing with historical deeds, famous characters and state virtues, all enclosed by gilded marks. Gold is the best expression of the Serenissima's power and splendour.
